Abigail Tawiah Mensah in great form as Berry Ladies FC beats Thunder Queens 1-0

Abigail Tawiah Mensah may appear surplus to requirements for Ghana Black Queens, but she remains pivotal to Coach Freeman Amponsah’s plans at Berry Ladies FC.

The goalkeeper was outstanding in Berry Ladies FC’s 1-0 win against Thunder Queens at Presec Legon Park on January 28, 2023, producing three spectacular saves to provide the perfect response to reports in Ghana Black Queens that she has been cut from her nation’s squad.

On a day when Maybel Amoyaw scored her 2nd goal for Berries, it was Abigail Tawiah Mensah who ensured the victory that moves Coach Freeman’s team up to fifth in the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League.

“You don’t be Berry Ladies FC’s No. 1 for that length of time if you’re not a fantastic goalkeeper,” Thunder Queens manager said. “She made two brilliant saves today for them and probably saved them from that point of view but it’s disappointing for us that we didn’t score because we put them under enough pressure.”

Abigail denied Thunder Queens Ladies’ forwards from scoring though there was enough pressure on Berry Ladies FC’s defends.

They were the type of heroics Berries has become accustomed to over her 3 years at the club, with her shot-stopping capabilities never in question.

But there have been questions over her ability to play out from the back with her feet, which has increasingly become a requirement for modern ’keepers but Abigail Tawiah is just phenomenon in her elements.
