Berry Ladies FC beat Army Ladies FC 1-0 at EL Wak Stadium to end Army Ladies FC’s unbeaten Malta Guinness Women Premier League run and claim a huge three points.
Jafaru Rahama exploited Army Ladies FC’s defensive mistake to score the winner, 3 minutes into the game though Victoria Salifu missed a similar opportunity one-on-one with Evelyn Yeboah (Goalkeeper for Army Ladies FC)
After a quiet but a bit tensed first half, in which Mavis Woode, Lily and Zinatu missed chances, the match sparked into life and more tensed in the second period. Jacqueline Amponsah missed some few chances before Portia Sakyiwaa had few goal chances which were flagged offside.
Coach Joseph Akeem of Army Ladies FC was furious because of his team’s inability to penetrate the defensive walls of Berry Ladies FC. Army Ladies FC pushed, but they failed to trouble Berry Ladies Fc’s four pillars, Comfort Yeboah, Martha Appiah, Regina Donkor and Elizabeth Yeboah, who clung on with the support of Cynthia Y. Boakye at the back to take a massive win.
Coach Freeman Amponsah to www.berryladiesfcgh.com : “Perfect result. The performance was really, really good. We played at a high level for 94 minutes and had really good moments where we should have scored more. They had their moments, but especially in the box, we won nearly every duel, so absolutely great.”
Comfort Yeboah to www.berryladiesfcgh.com: “Army Ladies FC always dominate the game, but the most important thing was the three points, and we have to carry on because our position in the league isn’t the best. Hopefully, this will give us more confidence, so we just need to carry on.
Though Martha Appiah won the Most Valuable Player (MVP), a lot of fans praised Portia Asante (Goalkeeper for Berry Ladies FC) who made marvelous saves to deny Army Ladies FC giving her another clean sheet to brag about as one of the best Goalkeepers in the history of Ghana Women’s Premier League.
