Jacqueline Amponsah: We keep momentum going – and strive for consistency.

Jacqueline Amponsah was pleased to see Berry Ladies FC ‘keep the momentum going’ by beating Thunder Queens FC, though underlined the need for continued consistency.

Berries ultimately saw off Thunder Queens FC 4-0 in Monday’s Malta Guinness Women Premier League clash at Madina Astroturf, which saw Jacqueline score two goals and win Player of the Match.

Victoria Salifu had the final say, however, prodding in from a Portia Sakyiwaa pass to ensure Berry Ladies FC followed up their win at Home with another three points.

Speaking to post-match after her interview with Max TV, Jacqueline Amponsah analysed how the encounter unfolded, the positives to carry forward, the areas for improvement and a prolific week for Jafaru Rahama on her 5th Goal since she joined.

Read the chat with the Player of the Match below…

On finding a way to win and it being a nervy game at times…

Yeah, we made it difficult, [it’s] never easy with us but we managed to get the job done, which was the most important thing. Obviously, the long throws were killing us a little bit so that’s something we need to be better at, definitely, especially off the second ball off them. But hopefully we can learn from that and there was no damage done with the three points in the end.

On needing to show patience to find a breakthrough…

We knew we were going to have to be patient, we knew they would be [in a] low block and make it difficult, girl-v-girl marking mostly, which is always a challenge. But you’ve got to try to be patient and wait for the right moment. We had one or two half-chances in the first half where we could have probably taken the lead with 6 goals or more, but it’s about keep doing the right things and being patient in the second half to finally get the breakthrough, which we did. But then from then on we can improve and probably should have gone on to win the game comfortably with more goals.

On Jafaru Rahama scoring her 5th Goal …

She gets herself in some great positions and normally when she gets in there and gets the ball she can finish them off. She’s just starting to find her rhythm after being out with injury for some few matches. It’s nice to see her back in the goals and full of confidence. Hopefully she can continue that from now until the end of the season.

On the confidence strikers take from getting one goal…

I think so, it looks that way definitely with Victoria and obviously Jafaru has got another one today and also myself with two goals(she smiles). Hopefully we can continue [that]. But, at the same time, we can be better defensively as a whole team – not just the defenders but the whole team can defend, especially those set-plays, better and manage the game a little bit better. So, that’s something we can work on. But overall, I think there were a lot of positives from today and the three points as well so we can keep the momentum going and be at the Top 4

On whether Berry Ladies FC have to just take it game by game now…

Again, for us we just need to get back to that consistency and performing every week in the Top 4 clash and next season. I think that’s the most important thing, I don’t think we can set too big a challenge and think too far ahead because we haven’t been consistent enough this season and it’s about finding that consistency again in performance. When you do that, the results will follow. That’s been the case over the last few games and hopefully we can continue that until the end.
