Portia Sakyiwaa has said ‘the time has come’ for a defender to get Berry Ladies Fc’s Player of the season as speculation builds that she is in the frame to scoop the overall top individual award.
The Winger was already nominated in this year’s awards as her performances at the heart of the Berries forward inspired them to 3rd Place glory and a qualification to the Women’s Super Cup.
The Forward said she preferred a defender to win the overall and admitted that Berry Ladies Fc’s success was built around the defenders and any of them deserve the overall.
“To get Berry Ladies FC’s Player of the Year is a fantastic honor as people are speculating,” Portia Sakyiwaa told Berry Ladies Fc’s official website, “it’s the highest honour you can get because it’s voted by your fellow peers, management team and technical team members.
“I said it back then as well, I would prefer any of the defender to get this and i think our back deserves all the accolades especially Comfort Yeboah who was even our top scorer, Regina Donkor, Deborah Annoh, Elizabeth Ayeba, Victoria Amenyo, Cynthia Boakye, Hellen Kutsanedzi and the rest, they are just top players”
Looking forward to next season, Berry Ladies Fc’s winger said her team was focused on challenging on all fronts.
The Madina Astroturf and the people of Madina were pipped to the title this 2023/2024 season, but Portia Sakyiwaa believes her team have the drive and the ability to be in the hunt in 2024-25 as well.
“As a team, we’re going to try to compete in every competition and obviously it’s going to be hard because there are so many and the league especially the southern zone is so tough as well,” Portia continued, “but the only thing we can do is try.
“We will give everything we’ve got and we have the quality as well. We’ll see where that leads us.”
