“Amazing Team, Absolutely Amazing Teamwork,” declared Coach Freeman Amponsah after Berry Ladies Fc brought in the New Year with an exhilarating 2-1 win over Police Ladies FC at Madina Astroturf.
Berry Ladies FC consolidated their spot at the 2nd top of the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League with a victory to kick off 2024, courtesy of Regina Donkor’s amazing goal in the second half and efforts from Victoria Salifu’s equalizer during the first half.
Freeman was delighted by the display from his team as he assessed a thrilling occasion under the fans chant at Madina Astroturf. Read his post-match convo verdict below with Berry Ladies Media Team and Nafisah Fattal of Max TV…
On Regina Donkor’s first and second-half performance…
Yeah, nobody should be really surprised that a defender like Regina Donkor can change a game, can improve in a game, because she did it countless of times and she already did same when we played with Army Ladies FC. It was her cross and Alhassan Fakiha‘s header that gave us the equalizer against Army Ladies FC.
Super game from an experienced player, from start to finish. I loved her game, I loved the team spirit atmosphere, everything was perfect besides the goal conceded; we could see that on Grace Krofi Amoah‘s face, she didn’t like that fact that she didn’t get a clean sheet as a goalkeeper. I think she deserved the Nasco Player of the Match that day.

On Cynthia Boakye’s display…
Special game. Special game from the captain to be honest: her high control at the back for the team to press, her counter-press with the attacking midfielders. We all know how good a player Cynthia Boakye Yiadom is, she is technically incredibly skilled, but she finds more and more direction in her attacking press though she is a defender, she gets better out of situations… she sets the level actually, how it should look. Really happy with that. She keeps every player in the game.
So many good performances, cannot actually remember really a bad one, to be honest, they were all really good. But we had to be, because in the situations when we were not at 100 per cent you could immediately see then Police Ladies FC were there. But we made it really tricky for them and it was a fully deserved three points.
Coach Freeman Amponsah continues….
I said here a few weeks ago, I spoke about the atmosphere – the atmosphere was absolutely exceptional and how we all took together during missed chances, that’s how an atmosphere should be. It was not like, ‘Oh my God, what are they doing?’, but everybody was just really on fire: we go again, we go again, we go again. And we did good, we scored two goals, which is already an outstanding number. All good and we prepare harder for the second Leg which I believe will start later in January or first week in February 2024. Amazing performance from everyone and every player.
